Coombe Abbey Hotel

Coombe Abbey Hotel

Coombe Abbey Hotel in Warwickshire, originally a Cistercian Monastery dating back to the 12th century is the ultimate in atmosphere, opulence and hospitality. Set in 500 acres of parkland with an 80 acre lake, Coombe Abbey near Coventry is just minutes away from all major motorway links and Birmingham International Airport.

Coombe Abbey once the most powerful monastery in Warwickshire until its dissolution in 1539, has an illustrious list of past residents. This includes Princess Elizabeth, daughter of James I, who came to live and be educated at the Abbey, which was also at the centre of the famous Gunpowder plot in 1605.

Having first crossed the moat bridge, you will walk through the cloisters before entering the Reception where porters in costume are waiting to greet you. While escorting you to your bedchamber some may wax lyrically about the abbey and its past residents. Along the way you will have passed the ornate altar and confessional boxes - now telephone booths, although your host, Brother Mel has been known to tell guests that he makes himself available to take confession at 6.00pm! You now feel you have left the ordinary and entered the extraordinary world that is Coombe Abbey.

Bedchambers

All 83 Bedchambers transport you back to an age of pure indulgence with fun and fantasy rolled into one. All Crown Feature and Grand Feature Bedchambers have been individually designed using selected silks and fabrics. The mischief of the designers includes baths installed in the middle of bedrooms, a Chinese pagoda style Bedchamber for the pure romantics and a bathroom hidden behind a bookcase!

Cloisters Restaurant

Cloisters Restaurant, once the banqueting hall with original ornate high ceiling and large open fireplace, is now a re-designed award winning restaurant which offers Table D'Hote and A La Carte menus in surroundings which will enthrall you. For those who require dining with privacy, adjacent to this unique Restaurant are intimate booths, which can seat from two to ten people.

Weddings

Picture postcard Coombe Abbey is licensed for Civil Marriages on three unique sites. The Courthouse, which dates back to the 1900's, has been transformed into a regal self contained venue. For the more unusual or themed weddings the Baronial Hall situated in the Abbeygate makes a wonderful theatrical backdrop, complete with Armour, Heraldry and Drinking Chamber. Situated within the oldest part of the Hotel is the De Camville, with a character of its own overlooking the courtyard and moat.

Mediaeval Banquets

Each weekend the past is brought to life in the form of a Medieval Banquet. For one night we will take you back to Medieval England as you enter the eerie mysterious Abbey of Coombe. Do not be disturbed as you arrive to the sound of the brethren, murmuring incantations around the tomb of Abbott Geoffrey. You have been invited, along with other peasants, to partake of food, wine and mead. Rumour has it that King Henry VIII is sending Dr London to seize the Abbey in the name of the King. If this should occur prepare yourselves for an evening of saucy humour, haunting songs, sumptuous food and audience participation which will delight and surprise you.

Meeting Facilities

Coombe Abbey is an unrivalled setting for meetings and conferences. The Courthouse, originally a 19th century real indoor tennis court, has its own lounge and bar area with four interchangeable areas to accommodate up to 120 delegates. The ground floor auditorium offers 3200 square feet of exhibition space.

Within Coombe Abbey there are 6 seminar rooms, with many of the original features ranging from oak panelled rooms with hand etched glass windows and stunning views of the gardens, lake and moat. The Hotel offers 21st century meeting facilities including a variety of audio visual aids.
